Create a poster to help advertise for Sate Hills' production of Seussical Jr. the Musical! All parents, teachers, and students are invited to create a poster; all posters will be hung around the school. We will select three winners from the student participants (a K-1st winner, a 2nd-3rd winner, and a 4th-6th winner), and their posters will be posted in the school's display case. Winners will each receive 4 free tickets to the play!
The office will give free white posterboard to participants of the contest! All posters are due to the office by March 11th. The only requirement is that the poster includes the date, time, and place information for the performances. That information is as follows:
Evening performances: March 21st, 22nd, and 23rd at 7:00 pm
Matinee performance: March 23rd at 3:00 pm
All performances at Willowcreek Middle School
If you have any questions about the poster contest, please email us at sagehillspta@gmail.com. Thank you!

Battle of the Books (BOB) - Battles Begin March 11th-14th
From Mrs. Allen:
Since the beginning of this school year students in the 3rd - 6th grades have been reading BOB books (list of BOB books), taking notes, earning BOB bands, forming teams, assigning team captains and coming up with team names. The time has now come to put all their hard work to the test!
The test is in the battling. Battles are where 2 teams come together and are asked questions about the books read. Points are given for correct answers. Scores of 3 battles are added up and each team is seeded into a "placement" and a single elimination round begins. Teams will be fighting for 1st place. (1st place in the 5th/6th grade group will go to district battles on Saturday, March 23.) Also, a student All-Star team will be formed with the top 8 students in each group - they will battle against a teacher team in an assembly.
I am in need of volunteers - anyone interested and willing to help is invited - come be judges for the battles. It is simple . . . you will either read a set of questions or keep time & score. Each battle lasts no more than 15 minutes. Simple and easy :) Thanks!!
E-mail me the shift you would like to do callen@alpinedistrict.org or reply to this post, please include an e-mail or a textable number for a reminder. thanks!

Battle of the Books Volunteer Instructions
Volunteer: 2 people (One READS the questions & One keeps TIME/SCORE)
Rules: Make sure no students have any papers, notes, books, etc. Teams should all be empty-handed.
Have them sit with their teams.
Team listed FIRST on score sheet, is to be on your LEFT. Team on LEFT = TEAM 1; Team on RIGHT = TEAM 2;
Always say the team # before giving the question: TEAM 1 - Question#1. (then read the question)
Time begans AFTER question is read. 30 seconds or 10 seconds.
Track points for each question on colored sheet given.
*Time person will announce “5 seconds” – when 5 seconds is left – then “TIME” – loud enough for everyone to hear. Then the person asking the question will then say “Team #__ do you have an answer for me?” They must answer immediately. Do not prod them or wait for them. Then say – “Team #__, In What Book . . . (and re-read question to them) – you have ten seconds.”
(Say this all outloud to teams:)
Team on LEFT = ODD questions Team on RIGHT = EVEN questions
Who is TEAM CAPTAIN? Answers will only be given by captain.
Each team will get 30 seconds to answer – captain may give an answer BEFORE time is up – if you know both Title/Author – they may be given together.
Correct TITLE = 5 points/AUTHOR=2 points
If a TEAM cannot give correct answer, then the other TEAM is read the question again and given 10 seconds to give correct answer.
When no correct answer is given, no points are given – we will move on to the next question.
If a TEAM can only give correct TITLE, then the other TEAM is asked if they know the author of (TITLE) and is given 10 seconds to give correct AUTHOR. If they CAN’T – then no one gets points for the Author. Move on.
There are 10 questions. GOOD LUCK! (TO BEGIN: Make sure TIME/SCORE person is ready . . . )
When BATTLE is over – give final score/have teams shake hands.
Please tell the team to go back to class, unless they are battling again or are battling during their class library time.

WE NEED DONATIONS FOR SEUSSICAL JR.
From the desk of Holly Sundstrom, costume designer for Seussical: hmsundstrom@gmail.com , or etsy.com/shop/bloomersandbows
Attention all Sage Hills Elementary Parents
I need some parents who are willing to sew costumes and/or help make some hats. If you can help, just get in touch with me via email ( see above.)
We are looking for many items to complete our costumes. We would like as much support from our community as possible. As of Monday, Feb. 10, there will be a tub in the school office for costume items; your child can bring whatever you would donate and leave them in it. Needed items are:
- Converse high top sneakers: any colors (bright colors would be great), big boy sizes anywhere from 3 to 5.
- Cheap or used costume jewelry: anything vintage-looking and/or bright, big beads, etc. - nothing valuable, please.
- Saddle oxfords: big girls’ sizes up to ladies’ sizes.
- Petticoats: any that would fit girls from grades 3 to 6, any colors.
- Any Cat in the Hat (red + white) hat: If you have any lurking anywhere in your homes, we could use several.
- Feather boas: any/all colors are welcome.
- Headbands with animal ears on them: any color or print will do.
