Box Tops 2010-2011 School year

At Sage Hills Elementary the PTA is collecting: Box Tops, Tyson labels (new this year), Capri Sun pouches (these need to be empty and dry), Cream o' Weber Lids, and Campbell's Labels.

We ask that you trim your box tops & check their expiration date.  They don't have to be trimmed perfect but just so they are not bulky!


**tip for collecting, after I go grocery shopping I take a razor blade and remove the box tops that can be removed,  right then so they don't expire on me**


Our Goal this year is $1500, but we will have small goals along the way to that goal!  See the Box Top Table at Back to School Night, August 23rd from 4-6pm.


Tyson Project A+:  Tyson Labels are new this year, so watch for them, the label says A+.  On some of their products it is the piece you tear off to get to the re-sealable zipper, so don't accidentally toss it!  :)  Click here for a list of products




Terracycle:  We are collecting Capri Sun & Other Pouch Drinkst flat and dry.  check out their website on all we can upcycle!
**tip:  you can cut the tops off them to drain them easily**


Cream O Weber Lids:  any cream o weber lids apply, even the one on the individual milks, send them all in!


Campbell's Labels of Education:  We don't need the whole label, we only need the part of the label that has the barcode and the little Labels for Education logo. click here for a list of products

Reflections 2010-2011 Theme

A great way to spend the summer months!!  Reflections!


Forms will be available at Back to School Night in August, if the become available before then we will let you know.  thanks!


The theme is "Together We Can.."


Categories are:


Three Dimensional - Visual art that exceeds the 3/8 inch thickness, ie: Sculpture, Jewelry, Visual Arts including: mobiles, wind chimes, kites, collages, diorama, etc, Ceramics.  Size is not limited but must be moveable.


Dance/Choreography - must be originally choreographed dance, up to 3 dancers preforming, choreographer doesn't have to be one of the dancers.  If costumes used the choreographer must also create them, or note not made by them.  Length may not exceed 3 minutes.


Theatre - Piece must be written by entrant alone.  up to 3 actors.  Playwright must do all costume, make-up & sets if used.  ie: Individual Storytelling, Pantomime, Monologue, & One Act, length may not exceed 5 minutes.


Musical Composition - Voice, Instrument or a combination.  Length may not exceed 5 minutes.


Film/Video - Film production entry must be an original work of fiction or non-fiction relating to the current theme.  The entrant must be the director, screenwriter, & camera person.  Styles: Animation, Narrative, Documentary, Experimental, Media Presentations (Power Point Presentations will not be accepted, use of this program is prohibited)


Visual Arts - an original print, drawing, painting, collage, photographic collage, metal etching or punch work, fiber work, or computer generated artwork.  must be less than 3/8 inch thick, may not exceed 24 inches x 30 inches, including a mat.


Literature - may be a work of fiction or non-fiction.  Prose, Poetry & drama are all accepted.  Literature entrants are not to borrow from copyrighted material.  Students may have they entries typed by another person as long as original work or a copy of the orginal work is attached.  Must not exceed 2000 words.


Photography - an original black & white or color image, or group of images, produced by the photographic process.  Photos with added graphics over the image including lettering are not acceptable.  A single print or collage may not exceed 11 inches by 14 inches, including mat.

Another Summer Reading Challenge!!!

SALT LAKE CITY -- One of the best ways to make sure your child remembers what they learned this school year is to read all summer.

KSL and other Deseret Media Companies are launching a Summer Reading Challenge that will keep your kids moving forward and keep them motivated.

We have a new way for you to log your kids' summer reading minutes starting Monday -- online at ksl.com.

If you'll take part in our Read Today challenge, your kids can win prizes for themselves and their schools.

New kindergarten recruits are in preseason training.

Their parents are getting the governor's summer reading calendar<http://firstlady.utah.gov/literacy/summer_book_reading.html> and refrigerator magnets reminding them to start reading at least 20 minutes a day to get them ready for school.

"We get a few minutes out of him and he is off and wants to go play," says dad Bart Childester.

Mom Lourdes Marquez understands the importance of summer reading. "Yes, I have time for that because I know it's important to read 20 minutes every day for my kids," she says.

The governor's summer reading calendar helps kids stay on track

Teachers hope families will make daily reading a year-round habit. Each summer as kids get older, they often lose 20 to 30 percent of what they learned in school each summer.

"Your students work really hard the nine months they are in school," says Midvale Elementary School kindergarten teacher Jodi Anderson. "If they stop using these skills, if they don't use them, they'll lose them."

So kindergarten teachers are coaching these families on practical ways to fit reading into summer schedules.

"We get really excited to go to barbecues, sleep in and play lots of Nintendo," Anderson says. "Just taking time and setting it aside so you can work on reading."

So with encouragement and incentives, more Utah students can go back to school ready to learn.

"He wants to win the prizes, and I'm like well good because I want you to read!" says Childester.

Teacher Appreciation Doors 2010

Thank You Everyone for decorating the Teacher's Doors, every single one got done!

We only had issues finding out that we had to leave 50% of the window in the door clear, so we are sorry to those we had to modify, but we did our best to make them look as cute as when you put them up!  I missed a few doors, that were not decorated at the time I took pictures!

They are all so cute & creative!!!!
