1.      Pledge of Allegiance

2.      Choir Update

a.       Tree Lighting Ceremony- 6:00 December 1^st at Neptune Park

b.      Hat replacement fee: $2.00 if kids lose during Polar Express

3.      Polar Express

a.       Starts at 6:00

b.      Format: Choir, author, sing-along, treat bags

c.       No chair set-up: do pajamas and blankets

d.      Fliers will go out Wednesday

e.       Bring canned food and stuffed animal drive—use teacher lunch box bins; push teacher giving trees

4.      Play

a.       Jen/Katy will ask teachers if anyone is interested in helping with play- M W Th 3:30-5:00 starting in January—just when available

b.      Parent meeting tomorrow- will seek assistant directors then

c.       Play ticket prices/free tickets need to be determined

d.      Play will most likely be opened to community within Sage Hills boundaries

e.       Business sponsors needed

Sage Hills School Play

Audition & Show Information
We are happy to announce that our 2015 spring play will be Disney’s Alice In
Wonderland, Jr. Below is the information you will need to know if you want to be a part
of this exciting production.
 

Important Dates
 

Auditions:
November 17, 2014 2:30-5:00 Everyone K-6th all who want to be in the play
November 19, 2014 3:30-5:00 3rd-6th Lead Call backs by invitation only
 

November 17 auditions come prepared to sing 16 measures
November 19- You will read lines from the script and learn 24 counts of a dance (All taught at the audition)

You can choose any 16 measures of a song, it can even be the middle. You can sing without accompaniment or bring music with you. We will have a cd player and piano.

Rehearsals:
Rehearsals are MANDATORY and students may not miss them unless they are ill or have been previously excused by the directors. This means you are only allowed to miss rehearsal for two reasons: you have indicated a conflict on your audition/signup form or an emergency (sick, family emergency, etc).  Unexcused absences (those not related to illness/emergency or indicated on your audition/signup form) will be treated with a “3 strikes” policy:

• 1st unexcused absence: Warning
• 2nd unexcused absence: Loss of parts/solos
• 3rd unexcused absence: Removal from the Show

Putting on a play is all about teamwork and we need everyone to be there to learn their roles. There are many things that go into putting on a play and when days are missed it is hard for cast member to catch up because we are on limited rehearsal days meaning we move forward at each practice.

Dress Rehearsals/Tech Week:
Tech week dates will be March 10 and 11. These may not be missed for any reason other then illness. Please check these date and show dates against your calendar and plan to be at these rehearsals and the shows.
 

Show Dates:
There will be 4 shows of Alice in Wonderland, Jr. Each cast will perform twice.  Cast member need to show up one hour before the show to get ready.

Character Listings
 

• Small Alice: (Girl)  Singing Role. A little sassy with Flower girls
• Alice: (Girl)  Singing Role. Able to do physical acting, able to handle nearly constant stage time.
• Tall Alice: (Girl)  No singing, but must be a good actor with good comedic timing.
• White Rabbit:  (Boy or Girl)  Singing Role. Strong acting ability – overstressed, hyper and a little pretentious.
• Cheshire Cats (3):  (Boys or Girls)  No singing. Must be able to work well with others and have good comedic timing. Lots of tricky, quick‐paced dialogue.  Cats are narrators and need to be able to handle smooth storytelling and communicate with the audience. Lots of demanding physical acting.
• Mad Hatter: (Boy or Girl)  Singing Role. Kind of a weird character; needs to be comfortable with looking and behaving strangely on stage.  March Hare is sidekick.
• March Hare  (Boy or Girl)  The Mad Hatterʼs sidekick. Needs to be good at copying what the Mad Hatter says. Must be funny.
• Dodo Bird:  (Boy or Girl)  Singing Role. Big, bossy voice. Very snooty.
• Doorknob (Boy or Girl)  Comedic role
• Tweedles (2)  (Boy or Girl)  Singing Role. Must be two kids that can work well together.  Very comedic role with lots of jokes.
• Flowers (5)  (Girls)  Only five girls will have lines, other chorus will be singing flowers.  5 girls who can act snotty and rude, mean to Small Alice, think theyʼre better than everyone.
• Caterpillar: (Boy or Girl)  Singing Role. The most “chill” character in Wonderland.
• Red Queen (Girl)  Singing Role. The Red Queen is the female belter with a big, angry, bossy voice, Lots of difficult notes. Needs to act conniving, murderous, mean, and CRAZY!
• King of Hearts (Boy)  No Singing. Mild mannered compared to the queen. Timid
• Mathilda (Girl) No Singing. Aliceʼs book‐smart, older sister.

Chorus Roles: The chorus has the biggest role of all! Almost every song in Alice in Wonderland, Jr. has massive chorus involvement. The chorus does more singing than any other role in the show. Chorus members will be cast in one or more of the following roles depending on availability.

• Wonderland Creatures
• Flowers
• Royal Cardsmen

2.      Hogwarts Recap

a.       Total sales: $6400.00 (inc. 630 meals); profit TBD after receipts are totaled

b.      For next year:

                                                              i.      Create more chocolate frogs (about 1000)

                                                            ii.      Make a line room for balloons and add more helpers

                                                          iii.      Move choir performance to the end, in the gym

                                                          iv.      Buy more chess sets for chess room

                                                            v.      Some shops need more decorations (Honeydukes); each shop should have a person in charge for decorations/atmosphere

                                                          vi.      1000 more galleons needed

3.      Sage Hills Testing Info

a.       Proficiency levels 1 (below proficient) to 4 (highly proficient); questions used to be about the same in difficulty; now questions are ranked from easiest to most difficult

b.      UT proficiency scoring on NAEP/ACT is about 40%

c.       Since scoring is on new system this will be the benchmark year; improvement will be able to be measured in future years

d.      Results will be given to schools in October and parents in November

4.      Budget Update- to be emailed

5.      Vote on Budget Reallocation

a.       Reading Recovery- $100; Mountain Main- $200;  Shiree motioned, Stephanie seconded, unanimous approval for $200

b.      In the future- based on grants program from PTA; all funds in excess of expenses (discluding rollover needs) can go to teacher grants.  Stephanie motioned, Shiree seconded; unanimous approval.  Specifics TBD

6.      Reflections Update

a.       Kara will hand out awards on October 27^th at 6:30

b.      Awards will also be announced at November assembly; trophies given ten

7.      Choir Update

a.       109 kids in choir

b.      T-shirt deal for $5.43, will be ready next Friday

c.       Tree lighting- Dec 1st

d.      Needs an assistant/piano player

e.       Students who haven’t paid-  send home letter to parents who haven’t paid with request for payment, possibly application for scholarship

8.      Picture Retake Volunteers- Carissa will check in on how many/if deal applies

9.      Email System: Mailchimp vs. Gmail- stick with Mailchimp for now and send important emails to Brady to forward on to all parents

10.  Play auditions end of November
